CMS Launches New Online Nomination System for Awards and Prizes

A simpler, centralized way to submit, manage and track nominations for all CMS awards

Ottawa, ON – The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is pleased to announce the launch of its new online Awards Nomination System. From now on, this centralized platform will be used to submit nominations for all CMS awards and prizes, replacing the previous process of sending nomination packages and supporting documents by email.

The new system is designed to provide nominators with a more modern, organized and user-friendly experience. It brings nomination information, supporting materials, status updates and reminders together in one place. It even makes it simple for supporters to upload their Letters of Reference without going through the nominator.

CMS awards and prizes recognize excellence in mathematical research and education, as well as outstanding service and contributions to the Canadian mathematical community.

What the new system offers

  • Submit nomination information and supporting materials through one online portal.
  • Monitor the progress and completeness of each nomination.
  • Track outstanding supporting documents and required materials.
  • Receive automatic notifications and reminders about important deadlines or missing information.
  • Review and update nominations during the applicable nomination period.
  • Simple web interface for selection committees to review all portfolios under consideration.
  • Use one account to manage current and future CMS nominations.

Submitting a new nomination

To begin a nomination, visit the CMS Awards and Prizes page, select the relevant award or prize, review the eligibility requirements and required materials, and follow the link to begin a nomination in the new system.

New nominators will be asked to create an account using their email address. Returning nominators can sign in to review current nominations or begin a new one.

Previous Nominations

Nominators with an active nomination from a previous cycle do not need to resubmit their nomination package. Existing eligible nominations have been transferred to the new system and will remain available for consideration in upcoming cycles, in accordance with the rules of the relevant award or prize.

No immediate action is required. Nominators only need to access the system if they wish to review or update their nomination.

Affected nominators will receive a separate email from the CMS identifying their existing nomination or nominations and providing instructions for accessing their account, setting a password, and reviewing or updating their materials. The account will be connected to the email address previously used for the nomination.

Recognizing excellence across the mathematical community

This new system is an important step in modernizing the CMS awards process and making nominations easier to submit, organize and follow. The CMS encourages members of the mathematical community to explore the current calls and help recognize the deserving individuals and groups whose work strengthens mathematics in Canada.
