NEW: All Members of Math Team Canada Win Medals at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad
Ottawa, ON – The CMS is proud to share that all members of Math Team Canada took home medals at 2026 International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Shanghai, China this week: 1 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze. This placed Canada 13th out of 117 countries who participated in the championship high school mathematical competition, which ran from July 10th to 21st, 2026. Writing for the team were:
- Perry Dai (University of Toronto Schools): Gold medal
- Christopher Li (Meritus Academy): Silver medal
- Ansh Agarwal (Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute): Silver medal
- Leo Wu (Bayview Secondary School): Silver medal
- Yuxin Fu (Stouffville District Secondary School): Bronze medal
- Tiger Li (Milliken Mills High School): Bronze medal

Congratulations to all team members for this impressive showing and thank you to the team leaders and trainers for supporting them!
Led by Eric Shen (University of Cambridge), Howard Halim, and Emily Ma (Harvard University), Math Team Canada competed in a rigorous two-day exam featuring six challenging problems, each day lasting 4.5 hours.

The 2026 IMO was the largest to date, with 666 contestants from 117 countries. Canada had an excellent result of 13th place with 1 gold, 3 silvers, and 2 bronze medals. Congratulations to the team, the leaders, trainers, and all other support staff on their success!
The team attended a training camp before the competition at the University of Toronto and Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto, Ontario. The CMS gratefully acknowledges the mentors and trainers who guided Math Team Canada’s preparation and success, including Warren Bei (Stealth AI), Howard Halim, Emily Ma (Harvard University), Eric Shen (University of Cambridge), Kate Tretiakova (uOttawa), and Ben Yang, and extends thanks to all volunteers and IMO committee members.

About the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)
The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is the world championship high school mathematics competition. The IMO began in 1959 in Romania with seven participating countries. Math Team Canada competed against the world’s best students from over 100 countries in the 66th IMO. Canada has earned 45 gold, 76 silver, 100 bronze medals, and 21 honourable mentions since first competing in 1981.
