Workshop on Galois Cohomology and Massey Products – A conference in honour of Jan Minac’s 71st birthday
On 16th September 1982, awed Jan Minac arrived from former Czechoslovakia at Montreal airport with 10 dollars in his pocket to see and explore for the first time free democratic country Canada. He heard for the first time people speaking freely in English and French, he saw shops, restaurants, movie theaters, subway and busy energetic people engaging in their pursuits. He dreamed that he could possibly live and freely think about mathematics in this country.
It took many years but now he has indeed become a part of the Canadian Mathematical Society, Professor at Western University and Fellow of CMS. To celebrate Jan’s 71st birthday, we are very pleased that there will be a workshop: Massey products in Galois cohomology, organized by Stefan Gille, Luisa Lisboni and Kirill Zaynullin.
The lectures are meant to be accessible for a broader public. All those local to the Ottawa-Gatineau region are encouraged to attend this special meeting. This meeting will be supported by Fields Institute, the University of Ottawa, Western University, and PIMS. Its Proceedings may be published in collaboration with Fields Institute and Springer.
We hope to celebrate with Jan’s friends, collaborators, students and colleagues this cheerful fun event! For more information: http://www.fields.utoronto.ca/activities/23-24/Galois
